Ashmore was originally a Saxon hilltop settlement. There has been a village here for well over a thousand years. At 700 feet Ashmore is the highest village in Dorset and is set in the beautiful rural landscape of Cranborne Chase. The village has approx. 200 inhabitants, no shop, school or pub but is well known for its beautiful pond and wildlife.
The Filly Loo (village fete), which is held at the Mid Summer Soltice is always well attended and worth a visit. The village has two churches, Anglican and Methodist, which come together for major festivals
.

Ashmore Methodists first met at Manor Farm at the invitation of Samuel Hall 1768-1844.

The original Wesleyan Church was built in the High Street in 1856. The village people are said to have collected flints to help in its construction.

A hall for the Sunday School and Band of Hope was built in 1904 and in 1974 the hall was taken over as the Church and the original building sold.

In 2010 a decision was taken to sell the the chapel building  due to concerns over costs of maintenance & Disability Access issues. The congregation  continues to meet at the Village Hall every Sunday & as a result members have returned to worship because the heating & access issues are resolved . The pastoral care  is overseen by local preacher Dr. Geoffrey Tapper.

For well over 100 years carol singing has taken place on Christmas Eve in aid of INCH Action for Children.
