Gillingham is the most northerly and largest town in Dorset with a population heading for 10,000. The town dates from Anglo-Saxon times and once had a mediaeval royal hunting lodge till the time of Edward III. It became a  centre for the local farming community but, with the arrival of the railway, its prosperity grew as a number of local industries became established. Today the town contInues to expand.

The Methodist Church, well positIoned  in the High Street, takes its place reaching out to the community with regular Sunday worship backed by extensive midweek Church and community activities both on and of the premises
