Mere is a small town or large village situated just off the A303 east of Wincanton and about 3 miles from Gillingham. It has one main street with a couple of grocery stores, Post Office, chemist, hotels and pubs and one or two little shops, a restaurant, cafe and some striking architecture. It is a mainly rural and agricultural community with just one or two light industries, notably the brush factory. There has been a considerable amount of new building on housing estates in recent years.

The Methodist Chapel is a small stone building built circa 1840 and lies just behind thein street. We are a small, older congregation but nonetheless active with one service every Sunday evening.

During the week the chapel is open for coffee on Wednesday mornings in the schoolroom which has been refurbished and updated
.
A "Pause for Thought" takes place at 11am.
An informal gathering takes place on the last Wednesday afternoon of each month when guest speakers are invited. This has become an ecumenical meeting.
Visitors are always welcome.
